About the Video
The Nutcracker Ballet is a beloved story that has captivated audiences for generations. As the founder and creative director of Theatre Avenue, Mitch Stark is on a mission to bring the magic of this timeless tale to life through innovative digital projections.
At Theatre Avenue, Mitch and his team are dedicated to creating dynamic backdrops for productions of all sizes. They are especially excited about their latest project – designing projections for The Nutcracker performance by the Savannah Ballet. The Theatre Avenue team has taken a meticulous approach to this project, immersing themselves in different illustrated versions of the story, including the original book by E.T.A. Hoffmann and Maurice Sendak's iconic illustrations.
With digital projections, the team have the opportunity to bring an extra layer of dreamlike magic to the performance. From subtle effects like slowly drifting clouds to falling snow, these projections add to the story without taking away from the dancers. The team's ultimate goal is to leave audiences inspired and to play a small role in inspiring the next generation of artists. After all, there is something truly special about experiencing a story together.

JUST finished a new projection design for Alice in Wonderland!
This show has been one of the most rewarding to design new art and animations for—so much possibility lies in each scene, to imagine and reimagine how to make this story come alive on stage for a new generation.
In art school, my teacher told us to draw with fat, chunky materials.
That’s right. No more pencils.
Grab a chunk of charcoal or a crayon or maybe even draw with your eraser on a smudgy mess.
