"Acting for the Stage" Online Class with Robyn Cohen
by Peter Sorenson
In this day and age, many of us are stuck at home and struggling to find meaningful ways to spend our time. However, the performing arts have been an inspiration for many people throughout the pandemic. That's why we are excited to announce our new online class, "Acting for the Stage," led by the talented and experienced actress and teacher, Robyn Cohen.
Cohen, who is in her 17th year of teaching acting and has performed on stage, television, and film for over 30 years, will guide students through the art and craft of stage acting. From her childhood beginnings as Orphan Annie in a school production, to studying at Juilliard, to her work on countless plays and musicals, Cohen has a deep love and appreciation for the theater, which she is excited to share with her students.
In this class, Cohen will explore what stage acting is and what it means to pursue a career in the theater. She emphasizes the importance of live theater performances, where actors and audiences connect in a powerful way to bring stories to life. Cohen stresses that acting is a craft, requiring actors to have a set of tools at their disposal, much like a plumber shows up with a toolbox. These tools may include mastering dialects, singing, or knowing how to play a certain sport to create a believable performance.
But the class is not just about the technical aspects of acting. Cohen also emphasizes the importance of emotion and humanity in performances, especially in musical theater, where characters are so full of feeling that they must break into song. Through this online class, students will learn how to use their own emotions and experiences to bring authenticity to their performances.
In these uncertain times, it can be difficult to find a sense of purpose or fulfillment. But acting for the stage can provide a much-needed creative outlet and a way to connect with others. Robyn Cohen's expertise and passion for the theater make her the perfect guide for this exciting and rewarding journey. We hope you will join us for "Acting for the Stage" and discover the joy of live theater performance.
