A new week, Theatre People!
This week I'd love to introduce you to Brittany Moss. In 2019 and part of 2020, just before COVID hit, Brittany and I were working on an exciting new show for her ballet company, Hansel and Gretel. This was one of my favorite projects, and even as the pandemic hit, we kept pounding away on the projection design with high hopes it would hit the stage. I'm sorry to say that the project withered, but I was so grateful for the time working on it.
So, that being said, I'm excited you get to know Brittany a little bit through this interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
What’s a show that inspires you? (explain away!)
There are many but being a ballerina, I’m going to pick The Nutcracker because it is the show that made me fall in love with ballet and I imagine many others as well.
What’s one of your happiest moments in theatre?
As I look back my happiest memories of performing are being with the friends I love. But as I have gotten older I just love BEING in the theatre and watching things I create come to life.
What’s the biggest ‘fail’ or goof you’ve seen on stage? (do tell the story)
I was performing the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and the Cavalier lifts me in the air, flips me around and catches me in a “fish.” Well, I forgot to keep one leg down, leaving him nothing to catch. I ended up hands on the floor, both legs split behind him. The only thing that kept me from hitting my head was he grabbed the back of my tutu to stop me.
Why do you love theatre?
I love that theatre allows performers and the audience to experience something that will only happen once. No two nights are the same, even if it is the same show. There are little changes, performers absolutely know them, audience members may catch them.

Brittany Moss is a former principal artist with the Utah Metropolitan Ballet (formerly Utah Regional Ballet). After completing her dancing career she moved to Houston, TX where she continued to teach and choreograph for different studios in the area. In 2018, she had the opportunity to become the co-director of AMS Dance Studio located in Sugar Land, TX. In June 2020, her family moved to the Kansas City area for a job opportunity for her husband. She continues to teach and choreograph in Kansas. She is a mother of 2 wonderful children.
